to watch or not to watch
I love entertainment.
Now more than ever, there are endless ways to be entertained. You got streaming services up the wazoo, everyone’s uncle’s sister’s mail man’s neighbor’s dog has a podcast, not to mention the giant that is TikTok, arguable Hollywood’s biggest competitor.
My favorite thing in the whole wide world is being entertained. Here’s my go-to routine:
-

-
- ignore my responsibilities
- gather a snack, a fun beverage and a lil-sum-sweet to finish
- sit in front of the magical picture box and be entertained

I have recently gotten the reputation of having peculiar tastes. Thought I can see why someone would come to this conclusion, I can’t say that I agree.
I think what baffles people is the fact that I watch shows/movies across time. On a Friday night, I may watch an episode of Dallas (1978), a 2000s romcom or a silent classic.
I think people miss out on what could be their fav now show or movie, because they don’t like to watch “old things”. Which I can agree takes some effort to get used to. When I first started watching silent movies, it was a transition. They were much slower that what I was used to. but eventually, I started finding ones that I really like.
What about you? How do you decide what to watch?
A hot cast? A director with a track record of quality work?
For me the main thing comes down to, CAN YOU ENTERTAIN ME.
Unfortunately, getting to the point where I pick and start a show or movie is a struggle for me.
God, I miss cable television!
Opening an streaming service and quite literally seeing 10s of thousands of titles is too much for my brain. i get overwhelmed and an hour will go by and I’ll still be looking. Or worse yet, I’m on my phone scrolling on TikTok.
Being entertained is a artform. It’s a love triangle between the makers, the final products and the audience.
I love being an audience member.
